Since the launch of the charity in 2013 it has grown more quickly than any of us had imagined. Whilst we have not yet reached our aim of being in a position where any woman presenting with cancer during pregnancy/post birth at any hospital nationally is referred to Mummy’s Star and accesses the support we offer, we have been fortunate to have many opportunities to raise awareness of the work we do.
Our leaflets are now available in many hospitals and doctors surgeries around the country, we have held stalls at a wide variety of venues and spoken at a number of conferences and seminars. In addition to this, we instigated ‘Cancer and pregnancy awareness week’ which is the week around our launch anniversary on 18th June. Last year we held our first conference for medical professionals during this week, which was extremely informative and a resounding success in terms of awareness raising. Our 2016 conference is currently in the planning stages and will centre around ‘Normality’ – looking at how the pregnancy and birth experience and be normalised as much as possible for mothers in this situation.
Should you wish to support us in raising awareness of cancer in pregnancy, please get in touch. We are happy to work flexible with different organisations and healthcare professionals. Examples are:
- Providing leaflets
- Giving informative talks tailored to staff or the public
- Holding a stall at an event
- Writing a blog/article
Healthcare practitioner training will become available towards the end of the year.
