Support for Surviving Partners

Support for Surviving Partners

There is no easy way for someone to respond to the loss of a partner. It is an incredibly lonely, confusing and uncertain time and something that none of us are practiced for.

The main thing is that they are kind to themselves as they get used to the new situation they are now in and not pressure themselves to get it right. It is going to be tough but they will find their way through.

Our CEO Pete found himself in this situation in 2012 following the loss of his wife Mair just 10 weeks after the birth of their son and also had a 3 year old daughter to try explain it all to as well

Thankfully he found a wonderful online support network via Facebook where he met and became friends with a number of other young widowed men, many of whom also had young families. If you would like to know more about this group and are working with a surviving partner would could benefit from being added please contact Pete direct on pete@mummysstar.org

Through shared understanding, and offering emotional support this group has grown to well over 100 members now and recently organised a residential weekend where a number of them came together. The feedback from this weekend and the group in general is incredibly positive and Pete credits this group widely as being hugely responsible for helping him get through some of the darkest days post his own bereavement.

You can read a blog here that Pete wrote for the Huffington Post’s Building Modern Men series in 2015
