WHO WE ARE

A unique charity providing support in the UK and Ireland

WE'RE MAKING CHANGE

Mummy’s Star is the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to women and their families diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within 12 months of giving birth.
Our mission is to provide cancer support to every family facing this traumatic situation.

The news of a pregnancy or a recent birth is an exciting time for all prospective and existing parents. It can, however, be cruelly interrupted by the news of a cancer diagnosis and the worry that this brings to both you and your wider family.

Mummy’s Star has been set up specifically to offer support if you find yourself in this situation and we hope that by providing comprehensive information and links in this section, it will help you to get the support you need, access services that are available to you, but most importantly know that you are not alone when you are going through this.

The information contained here is reviewed on an ongoing basis and will also be added to as new information becomes known about cancer in pregnancy. Likewise, as we receive more enquiries, we will add to the FAQs section in order to be able to try and answer as many of your questions in one place as possible.

we focus on

1. Women who are diagnosed with cancer during their pregnancy.

2. Women who are diagnosed with cancer within a year of her giving birth.

3. Families who within the first year of a birth lose their female partner as a result of cancer.

4. Healthcare professionals who care for women and their families facing this situation above.

our vision

To be in a position where any woman diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within 12 months of giving

birth is referred to Mummy’s Star and can accesses the support we offer.

our work involves

Providing support

Where there has been a cancer diagnosis in pregnancy or within 12 months of giving birth.

Advocacy on behalf of our families

This includes support at hospital appointments, working with other organisations to draw in

additional support, and employment rights advice in addition to extending our knowledge

base and expertise about cancer and pregnancy, treatments and options for women.

Financial support

Small grants system for families which could be for anything which is deemed as supporting the family.
For example, paying for a support carer/nanny to help in the house, payment to make up for unpaid leave taken
by a partner to support at home above and beyond the allowances of paternity and travel costs.
This is not an exhaustive list. Grants up to £700 are also provided in the event of a terminal cancer diagnosis,
for memory making activities, a family holiday etc. Work place entitlements or benefit entitlements.

Emotional support

Mummy's Star emotional support provides mums, partners and the wider family with online resources,

support from peers through closed forums and bespoke support directly with a dedicated support worker.

In certain areas of the UK we can also provide home visits. We also provide support for healthcare professionals

looking after patients and their families who are dealing with cancer and pregnancy.

Bereavement

In the event of the death of a mum, we continue to support both for the surviving partner,

through widowers networks, and also counselling support for them and their children.
