Volunteering with Mummy’s Star can suit all different people! What you do will mostly depend on your own skills and how much time you have. We are currently setting up Friends of Mummy’s Star Teams, designed to help locally support the work of Mummy’s Star.

If you’re not sure what’s happening in your area or you would like more information, please contact us.

Friends of Mummy’s Star Teams are the local face of Mummy’s Star, raising vital funds and raising the profile of the charity so that we can reach more people affected by cancer through pregnancy and beyond. That’s why we’re looking for special volunteers to help boost our fundraising support network. Whether you join an existing group or help us set up a new one, you’ll be making a massive difference to Mummy’s Star and, ultimately, to the lives of the women and families we support.

This is a flexible volunteer role. Events and meetings can be organised to suit group members’ availability.

The team can be as big or small as you like but ideally there should be at least 3 core people who are willing to support others and that can work together and lead other volunteers in their amazing efforts:

Volunteer Co-ordinator:
Responsible for supporting and recruiting volunteers in the area. Contacting volunteers to ensure events are staffed and supported by our lovely volunteers.

Fundraising Co-ordinator:
Responsible for maintaining and developing relationships with businesses and community groups to support and encourage them to fundraise for Mummy’s Star.

Responsible for ensuring collected funds are carefully counted and deposited in the bank.

These core team members would have regular contact with Mummy’s Star head office to gain the necessary guidance and support. They will work with all team members to develop ideas for fundraising and opportunities to raise awareness of Mummy’s Star.

What we’re looking for:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good influencing and networking skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Numeracy and book keeping skills
  • An ability to be a team player

What you can gain from this opportunity:

  • The full support of a member of the fundraising team
  • Public speaking training and guidance on media and PR work if requested
  • Opportunity to develop your leadership, communications, fundraising skills
  • The opportunity to boost your CV
  • Meeting new people

Other members of the team may include:

Mummy’s Star Advocate: This is usually one of our Mum’s or a close friend or relative who has seen first-hand the impact of Mummy’s Star’s work. They are willing to speak at events about their experience.

Collection Volunteer:
Responsible for sourcing locations and servicing static collection tins and helping collect money at various events.

This includes collections at local supermarkets, football clubs, and department stores and we’re looking for dedicated, passionate volunteers to help. You would also ask local businesses to keep static collection pots and regularly check on the funds being raised. The more people we have collecting, the more money we can raise for people affected by cancer in pregnancy and beyond.

As a collection volunteer, we will let you know if there’s a collection coming up to see if you can help. If you’re not available, then we’ll simply keep your name on the list for the next one.

Events Co-ordinator:
This is the team member who is bursting with ideas for coffee mornings, running races, family fun days and other events. They will be supported in making sure the events promotion is on brand and that other elements such as raffles and tombola’s comply with charity legislation.

Administration Volunteer:
Sometime you might need envelopes stuffing, thank you letters writing, raffle tickets designing and many other little jobs that some people just love to do! The admin volunteer will support the core team members.

Little Star’s:
If you are especially pressed for time you can still volunteer! Always willing to help out where they can, they are essential to the Friends of Mummy’s Star team and can be called upon for those smaller jobs that make a big impact.

What we’re looking for:

  • An ability to represent Mummy’s Star appropriately and enthusiastically
  • An interest in cancer care and the services that Mummy’s Star provides.

What you can gain from this opportunity:

  • The full support of your local Friends of Mummy’s Star team
  • The opportunity to meet and work with new people
  • The chance to boost your CV

Mummy’s Star will work with you to provide training (if necessary), support and materials to make your team a success. We will develop a personalised volunteer agreement that is signed by both us and the volunteer to ensure the teams are well managed and everyone has a positive experience. All volunteers will have the opportunity to feedback to key staff members ensuring they have the knowledge and skills they need to represent Mummy’s Star appropriately and effectively.

To apply to be a volunteer please print, fill out and send the application form.
