How to support families who face the heartbreaking decisions which can lead to the loss of their baby

Some families will tragically lose their baby through compassionate induction or miscarriage. Some factors in this may be a cancer diagnosis in early pregnancy, highly aggressive disease, and effective treatment not being conducive with pregnancy without having an adverse impact on the baby.

In such cases, adequate and timely loss support should be in place and offered in the same manner that it would in non-cancer pregnancies experiencing loss.

Likewise, some of our families face very early delivery due to the nature of their cancer and the health worries of premature babies add to/overtake the cancer emotion. Bliss are a wonderful organisation to seek support from for you and parents.

Sadly, some of our families lose their babies at this early stage due to complications/illness and they need every bit of support they can to aid them through this period while still undergoing cancer treatment.

We recommend accessing Beyond Bea training/study days to increase knowledge in this area, even if you feel well placed to support bereavement
