The Hayloft Fitness community - a year of fundraising

The amazing members of Hayloft Fitness in Glossop spent 2024 working hard to stay active and raise an incredible amount for local charities.
Mummy's Star received an amazing £1000 donation towards our work supporting mums and birthing people diagnosed with cancer in or around pregnancy.
UCLan Midwifery Society - conference fundraiser
January
Midwifery students from the University of Central Lancashire hosted a conference in December and used the opportunity to fundraise for Mummy's Star. We are so grateful for their generous donation!
Shaun Hennessey and friends - 70s Singalong!
January
A fun-filled night of nostalgia and amazing music, including a fantastic performance, a lively raffle and unforgettable singalongs, raised £306!
Shaun chose 'We Are the Champions' as the finale song, saying: "I thought it to be appropriate for anyone going through the challenges supported by Mummy's Star. I have lived in many places... Glossop - with its stunning surroundings and special people - is now my 'forever town' and raising money and awareness for one of its great causes is a small thank you from me to the area”.
Hope Carter - Chelmsford 10k

Hope completed the Chelmsford 10k in just over an hour and raised over £250 for Mummy's Star!
She says: "Mummys Star strikes a chord in my heart after my sister got diagnosed with cancer during her first pregnancy. We heard about the charity through a friend and I knew then that I wanted to fundraise for a much needed charity who offer so much support to women and their families who are going through the unimaginable."
Quiz For Hazel - raffle

As part of their “Quiz 4 Hazel” charity quiz night, the Quizwell team held a cash raffle raising money for Mummy’s Star. It was a huge success and raised the highest ever total donated to a single charity, by their business, at £1,135.
Glossop Methodist Church - chosen charity of the month
March
A church local to Star HQ spent the month raising awareness and funds for Mummy's Star by sharing information with their community. They collected £210 and made fantastic use of Mummy's Star's downloadable resources which were "easy and fun" to make.
isobelly Laughs - comedy night
March
"Good jokes are rooted in human truths. We believe great advertising is too. That’s why we host our 'isobelly Laughs' comedy night every few months at isobel. It’s a free night of laughs, but also a chance to give back – this time, to Mummy’s Star, around Mother’s Day. We’re proud to have raised £500 to support mums and birthing parents going through cancer. A brilliant cause that made the night even more meaningful." - isobel Creative Agency
Sarah - 100k to remission challenge
March
Sarah committed to running 100k during chemotherapy, within weeks of birthing her beautiful baby boy Teddy.
She says: "I wasn’t sure if it was possible let alone If I could do it. Each chemotherapy cycle presented me with new challenges. I was very sick. Sleep had become a distant memory such as these things do with a new baby. I had pain in my bones, even between my toes (I’d never experienced anything like it). I was exhausted. I didn’t let any of this dampen my determination though.
Mummy’s Star have been amazing during my breast cancer journey. I hope the funds raised will help uplift others in similar situations."
McGirl Family - Football Tournament - TCTXI vs Mummy's Star United May
On May 31st, two brilliant teams of football players came together with the aim of providing a fun afternoon for all! The event was held in loving memory of Kerry, who was just 29 when she died from cancer diagnosed in pregnancy. The match marked the 5th anniversary of her passing.
Approx. 250-300 people turned out on the day. Kerry’s two children - Rico and Scarlett - walked out with the teams and there was a minute silence for Kerry before the game began. Mummy's Star United won the match 2-0!
Tommy, Kerry's cousin, says: "It was a brilliant turn out and brilliant to get the win for Mummy’s Star. A very enjoyable afternoon of which we’ve had great feedback and the lads in my Team actually want to keep this a regular thing so it’s something we’ll be doing yearly."
Kelly - Booze and Brush
May
Star Mum Kelly held a 'Booze and Brush' night with Painting Passions. Friends and family baked cakes and cookies which were sold on the night and helped to source incredible raffle prizes.
Kelly says: "The evening was such a buzz a room filled with love and friends. The waterfall we painted is a special place to me, it’s Plitvice Lakes in Croatia, I went with my husband after chemo. It felt very unique and personal to share that with everyone.
I am so unbelievably grateful for all the support I receive from this wonderful charity. I just wanted to show my thanks by giving back and hopefully being able to help other mums in similar positions to myself. Thank you Mummy’s Star."
Natalie - Woodhall 10k - Great North Run prep May
Natalie will be taking on the Great North Run to fundraise for Mummy's Star in 2025, after we supported a friend of hers.
She completed the Woodhall 10k as part of her GNR training with the help and support of a good friend. She was aiming to complete in less than an hour and smashed her target by finishing in 52.43 minutes!
Jamie and the Lloyds Team - Peak District Walk
May
Jamie and a team of colleagues from Lloyds Banking completed a 20 mile Peak District Walk and raised £1624, plus gift aid for Mummy's Star. Their employer was then were generous enough to match that amazing fundraising total bringing the final donation total to over £3200!
Julian and Justin - The Deadly Dozen Fitness Race June
Huge thanks to Julian and Justin for taking part in The Deadly Dozen Fitness Race, an intense fitness challenge that features both track and gym-based challenges designed to test physical endurance and strength.
Together they raised an amazing £600, plus gift aid.
Scrap Car Comparison - 'Donate A Car' scheme
July
Mummy’s Star are the featured charity partner of Scrap Car Comparison’s ‘Donate a Car’ scheme until mid-July. Scrap Car Comparison provides a hassle-free process for selling cars, vans and other vehicles for scrap or salvage. Their ‘Donate A Car’ scheme allows customers to choose to donate some or all of the profits from scrapping their unwanted vehicle.
Kathryn - Edinburgh Marathon May
Huge thanks to Kathryn for her incredible efforts at the Edinburgh Marathon and raising almost £1000 in the process!
She says: "I wanted to run for Mummy’s Star because I was diagnosed at 38 weeks pregnant in 2022. Mummy’s Star was the support I needed during a shocking time. They helped me find donated breast milk and offered advice for my very specific circumstances. It also opened the doors to a community of strong women going through similar experiences.
Following treatment, I started the couch to 5k and have been running since. I turn 40 this year and wanted to run a marathon to prove to myself and others that I have a strong, working body. Marathon day was great. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and most importantly not too hot! I had a fab day and I would even sign up for another one!"
Mick and Lizzy- Walking challenge - Mablethorpe to Skegness
June
Mick and Lizzy walked a staggering 18miles in a day to raise money and awareness for Mummy's Star. Their fantastic effort raised over £700!
Mick says: "After my Daughter's terminal diagnosis, she did a media day for Mummy's Star. I thought if she could do it, with her illness, I’d better get on and get something done. I’m 58 and walked 18 mile from Mablethorpe to Skegness, with my Granddaughter Lizzy. Mummy’s Star has helped my family a lot, and it was a pleasure to put something back."

Cissy - Hair accessories 2025
Huge thanks to the amazing Cissy who raised a fantastic £123 for Mummy's Star selling her beautiful hair accessories. She was very proud showing her certificate to her school. Great job, Cissy, you are a SuperStar!
Daisy, Phoebe, Martha, Freya and Annie - Bake Sale
August
These fab friends took advantage of a sunny day in the school holidays to have a bake sale and raise funds for Mummy's Star.
They set up a table, made a sign, and did all the baking and organising themselves. They raised an incredible £106.20 pounds in just three hours!
Their family are all so proud of their enthusiasm and resourcefulness... and so are we!
Jessica and James - wedding fundraiser July
Jessica and James got engaged in April 2024, finding out they were expecting their first child soon after. Sadly, less than a week later, Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has had surgery, completed chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and started hormone therapy since. As well as support from her fab friends and family, Jessica is grateful to receive regular support from Mummy's Star, with access to learning resources and a network of people in a similar situation. Jessica and James went ahead with their wedding in July and had a brilliant day with friends and family. Their 3 month old Star Baby girl Rhiannon was their throughout the day and had a great time too!
They set up a wedding fundraiser with a target of £1,000. With great support and generosity they smashed this target, raising £1,899. On the tables at the wedding they had Mummy's Star pin badges for everyone, which their guests wore with pride.
Holly - Ankle skip challenge - 100 a day in July!
July
Molly, a repeat fundraiser for Mummy's Star, raised £320 plus Gift Aid for by completing 100 ankle skips every day in July! The last 700 done on holiday, in the heat of Spain.
She’ll soon be deciding on 2026’s challenge. Molly, you are truly a SuperStar!
Sophie - Camino de Santiago
August
Sophie walked the incredible Camino de Santiago, the famous Portuguese coastal route, and raised £500 for Mummy's Star. It was an incredible challenge: 130k over 4 days (that's the equivalent of two and a half marathons and a 10k) while carrying 10kg on her back, in temperatures as high as 32 degrees.
She says: "It was an incredible experience; very challenging but rewarding. I did this to support Mummy’s Star as it’s a local small charity that helps so many different people and really do make a difference. I wanted to do my bit to raise support and awareness of this charity."
Natalie - Great North Run September
Natalie is one of our amazing members of Team Mummy's Star who tackled the fantastic Great North Run and raised over £700 for Mummy's Star!
She says: "A special friend of ours was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, after having their third child in autumn last year. She says that Mummy’s Star has been a wonderful support. Running the Great North Run was something I could do to support such an amazing charity.
The day was incredible. The atmosphere was electric. I have never experienced anything like it. The noise & buzz was amazing. It was surreal. The last 3 miles were hard but this is where I recalled why I was doing the run & thought of every single person who had sponsored me. I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me & donated to such a wonderful charity. And big love to our special friend and all those going through this difficult times."
Olympic Skeet British Grand Prix - Raffle and Auction September
Andrew, Paul and everyone who participated in the Olympic Skeet British Grand Prix at Eaton Hall in September, chose to fundraise and raise awareness for Mummy's Star as part of the event, held in memory of Star Mum, Sarah W.
They held a raffle and auction using generously donated prizes from their sponsors.
They say: "We have supported the charity over the last 3 years. Each year growing the entries for the shoot and the funds raised. This year I am delighted to say we have raised £3,272".
Beth - Great North Run
September
Beth was part of Team Mummy's Star and ran the Great North Run in loving memory of a dear friend and Mummy's Star Mum.
She says: "Running the Great North Run for Mummy's Star meant the world to me. At mile 3 I tripped over a water bottle and every step hurt, however every step was absolutely worth it and every step meant something and mattered."
Cindy, Emma and Team - The Cinder Track September
Cindy, Emma and team walked the Cinder Track, from Scarborough to Whitby. They raised over £1000!
They say: "We were lucky with the weather and the rain held off for a huge part of the track, however, we were battered by horizontal hard rain for the last 6 miles. Which led for a very interesting trek from Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby. In total we walked 22.29 miles! It was a huge achievement for all involved."
Easement Solutions - Great Eastern Run
September
Laura, Rebecca, Lauren, and Ciara from Easement Solutions smashed the Great Eastern Run as part of their organisation's Charity of the Year fundraising for Mummy's Star.
They said: "It was a morning full of smiles, determination, and incredible team spirit as we came together to support a charity that means so much to us."
Sarah - Great North Run September
Sarah was part of Team Mummy's Star at the Great North Run this year. She raised a fantastic £575 in addition to her amazing awareness raising throughout 2025, with her business Forget Me Not Reflections.
Jo - Bournemouth Half Marathon October
Star Mum Jo ran the Bournemouth Half Marathon to mark three years in remission and raising £1100 plus gift aid.
She says: "I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma when my son was 6 weeks old. I felt so alone and like no-one would understand. Mummy's Star supported me through my treatment and recovery, I leaned on the staff and other Star Mums with my questions, my hopes, and my worries. I'll always be so grateful for the support."
Noah and Archie - York Marathon
October
Noah and Archie smashed the York marathon in October and raised an amazing £2,054 plus gift aid!
Katie - Glasgow Half Marathon
October
Star Mum Katie took part in the Glasgow half marathon and raised an amazing £1073!
She said: "This charity is so important to me as I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in January 2021 when my little girl was only 3 months old. Mummy’s Star looked after me and my family so well, both financially and emotionally.
I decided to take up running to get fitter and get back to some version of myself pre-baby and pre-illness. It turned out that I am so much stronger than the girl I was before. I never imagined that I would be able to run one mile, never mind a half marathon."
Mark - Movember November
Huge thanks to long-time supporter, Mark, who raised over £300 for Mummy's Star by participating in Movember this year.
He says: "I've regularly raised money via Movember for Mummy's Star as my wife Jo had thyroid cancer treatment whist pregnant with our son seven years ago. The support, help and advice she received from Mummy's Star was very encouraging for us both."
Second Year Midwifery Students at Coventry University
Distance Challenge - 550 miles
December
This determined group of student midwives raised over £1000 for Mummy's Star with an incredible challenge. They set up static bikes on campus, and cycled, ran and walked together to contribute towards a staggering 550 mile total distance.
They said: "We had a lecture from Pete (the Founder) explaining the amazing work Mummy’s Star do for women and their families in an absolute time of need. We wanted to extend our thanks and contribute to this incredible charity."
Maldon Bootcamp - Maldon Mud Race and more! 2025
The Maldon Bootcamp team took on the iconic Maldon Mud Race for Mummy's Star, organising additional events in the lead up including a raffle, appearing on local radio, and even fundraising outside a supermarket.
Their amazing efforts raised an incredible £12,355 plus Gift Aid and raised vital awareness of Mummy’s Star across their community, showing the power of teamwork, storytelling, and determination.
