A new legacy in memory of our much loved founding trustee
This November will see the launch of a brand new award for midwifery students and professionals.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Nicolette Peel Award which will recognise and give financial support to practicing and student midwives who are working on projects or research that aims to help vulnerable women and birthing people. These may include (but aren't limited to) those diagnosed with cancer or other life threatening illnesses.
The award is being funded by her family and Mummy’s Star.
Nicolette was a founding member of Mummy's Star, sitting as Chair and trustee on our first Board, and working for years after as an incredible supporter, advocate and ambassador for the charity and for women and birthing people. After her own experience with cancer around pregnancy, she trained to be a midwife and received multiple awards and industry-wide recognition for her passionate and loving support of women, birthing people and midwives. She received an MBE in 2020 for her services to women with cancer in pregnancy.
Nicolette sadly died in January 2023 following a secondary cancer diagnosis in 2021.
The Award will be launched on Wednesday 22 November by the Iolanthe Midwifery Trust, at their annual awards ceremony online.
We are so proud and grateful to see Nicolette's incredible legacy continued in this way.
